Frequently Asked Questions

XXXX Gold
  1. What is XXXX Island?

XXXX GOLD has an island for its drinkers, XXXX Island, to kick back and relax on over the next few years. It's a real island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, an idyllic place where you can come with your mates and experience what we at XXXX GOLD call, the Good Life - some fishing or golf, a game of beach cricket or touch footy, a swim in theocean, great tucker on the barbie and an icy cold XXXX GOLD.

  2. When will the island be open for business?

The first trips for mates will begin in October 2012, however we may have a few visitors come and stay on XXXX Island prior to that time. Between now and October, we’re asking Aussies to tell us what we should build or bring to XXXX Island to help shape it into the ultimate destination for mates’ trips away.

  3. Will people be able to pay to go there?

No. The Island is only available to invited guests and competition winners.

Very little. In essence, more creatures than comforts.

  9. Is the island difficult to get to?

Great places aren’t always easy to get to – but we don’t think visitors to XXXX Island will mind taking what is a fairly minor journey to get there. After all, that’s all part of the adventure!

  10. Is it only open to men?

Not at all. Whilst we do expect that XXXX Island will have great appeal to our drinkers, the majority of which are men, by no means is XXXX Island just for men. It’s the perfect place for mates’ trips away –males and females alike.

Not at all. Of course there will be the opportunity for visitors to enjoy a few XXXX GOLDs over a couple of days, but what XXXX Island is all about is giving mates the opportunity to hang out together, doing things they love – everything from fishing and golf, to beach cricket and touch footy – plenty to keep people active for the whole weekend.

  13. What are you doing to encourage responsible alcohol consumption?

All XXXX Island staff will be RSA-trained, and will be given specific guidance and training on responsible service on XXXX Island. We’ve got defined opening hours for the bar that align with what they’d be for most pubs on the mainland. We’re also only serving XXXX GOLD, which is a mid-strength beer and is therefore lower in alcohol than most alternatives.

  14. How are you regulating / monitoring alcohol consumption on the island?

We’ll be operating the responsible service of alcohol principles that apply elsewhere in Australia. If we feel someone has had too much to drink, then we will take the necessary steps to ensure they don’t consume any more.

  15. Who is responsible for managing the island on a day-to-day basis?

XXXX Island will be staffed by a team of people who have all the necessary experience to ensure all guests on the island have a safe and enjoyable visit.

  16. Are you going to serve anything other than XXXX GOLD on the island?

Safety is always our number one priority, no matter what we do, and that will be the case on XXXX Island as well. All appropriate measures will be in place to ensure the safety of any equipment or activity that takes place on the Island, and as you’d expect in an environment where people will be in and around the ocean, there’ll be key periods, as on a patrolled beach, where a trained life guard and first aid officer are present.

  18. What is the severe weather protocol for the island?

XXXX Island will be closed during the wet season (mid December through until mid -March) in an effort to avoid potentially bad weather. We will also have activities in place to ensure guests enjoy their stay in the event of poor weather.
